Undergrads Deprived a Trip to Montreal to Sing
As a reasonably healthy retired old guy, life is pretty easy for my wife and me. Decisions at the Federal level really should not have a huge effect on us. That is probably a valid thought, but we are among of the lucky, and the same is not true for our kids, our grandkids, and way too many of our neighbors. Federal decisions and policies can affect us profoundly.
This past weekend, my wife and I had the privilege of hosting some undergraduates from Boston. They sing in a college choir of about 30 students. It is the same choir that my daughter and her husband sang in, and it is where they met. That choir has been a positive force in many young lives for decades.
Every other summer, the choir takes a North American tour, staying with host families, singing concerts, and discovering new places. This year’s tour was supposed to cover New Hampshire, Vermont, and Montreal. They decided to nix the Montreal leg because ¼ of the students in the choir are international. The risk of going to Canada and returning to the US was too great. They opted out. What a sad loss for those unbelievable young people.
