OTHER NEWS OF NOTE:
Wearing Paperclips:
Norwegian teachers and students wore paper clips to signal their opposition to Nazi occupation. They attached them to their lapels or wore them as jewelry, a symbol of solidarity binding them together as paper clips did with papers. It was a quiet act of defiance, expressing that Norwegians remained united against Nazi rule. Recently, wearing paper clips is spreading as a symbol of resistance and is appearing in many groups as a way to recognize like-minded people and show resistance to the Trump regime. We are starting to see it take hold in many Indivisible groups as well. We will have paper clips available at the Snow Farm event for anyone who wishes to participate.
NO KINGS 2 is on October 18. It will be bigger than the nationwide No Kings Day, which was bigger than Hands Off. We are planning to have a car/truck caravan that starts in Alburgh and passes through each of our Island towns and ends in South Hero with a planned bell ringing at noon. There will also be a protest rally happening at the South Hero location at the same time. You can join either. This will be an ‘all hands on deck’ event. Please mark your calendars. I will send details this week.We are still looking for BELLS. Let me know if you have one!!!
Sign-making Meeting: Our sign-making group will be meeting on Sunday, October 12, from 3:00 to 5:00 at the Grand Isle Fire Station conference room. We are making a special sequential set of signs for No Kings 2 on the theme of “This is fascism”. We will have stencils to trace onto the signs and paint and supplies. No artistic skill needed this time, but we do need lots of hands to help out!! Please plan to join in.
Survey: Be on the lookout next week for a survey from Indivisible Champlain Islands. We wish to know more about what our members are thinking about, how members see ICI, and how we can best communicate with you and match actions to meet your expectations. We are lucky enough to have members who know how to do this for us. I hope everyone will take a few minutes to respond. It will be immensely helpful to the Leadership team.
Thanks to all of you for being so engaged and helping with this struggle. I’m excited to see you all tomorrow evening (Tuesday).
