Hello Indivisibles,

What a brilliant day Saturday was!!  The People came out and let their voices be heard all across this Country, in every State, and in thousands of communities.  The nationwide estimate is 7 million participated.  And, I have to admit, when I look at what happened locally, even that huge number seems low.  It was the largest single protest event in the Nation’s history.  At the Rally in South Hero, we had 300 people (and a couple of dogs, one unicorn, and a wizard).  That is 50% more than we had at the First No Kings Rally that we hosted at Exit 17.  And remember, this is after all of our dedicated summer members have left!  And, it looks like between the event at Snow Farm with AG Clark and this No Kings 2 event, we will add over 50 new members to our Indivisible Champlain Islands group.

Our event for No Kings was a huge success.  The Caravan had way more cars/trucks/motorcycle than we expected.  People were waiting along the route for us to pass and gave us waves, and rang bells.  And the Rally in South Hero was earnest, joyful, inspiring and left no doubt that an enormous number of The People want the government abuses to STOP.  They will not bow down to a king, or a tyrant or a wanna-be dictator or a bully.  And they are a determined lot, judging from the conversations I had there.  The bell-ringing ceremony at the end was amazing – so many of you brought your bells and rang them for Freedom.  Even the Congregational Church bell rang at 4:00 (it could be heard well in the heart of the Village, but was harder to hear at the Rally)

Across the State of Vermont, the numbers coming in are jaw-dropping.  There were 57 registered events.  So far, a reported 43,000 attendees.  Just in Vermont!!  That is 6.6% of the entire population of Vermont, folks.  And think how many people passed by all those events and honked and gave thumbs-up in support.  We should acknowledge that there was also at least one GOP event with 80 attendees in support of the current administration.  It is a beautiful, free country when everyone gets to have and express their own opinion.

I want to thank everyone who participated in the No Kings event on Saturday.  When we have enough of us standing together with a common purpose, we have the power to “change the political weather” as Ezra Levin, one of our co-founders says.  Eventually the Congress will realize they have to face another election.  Our job is to be sure enough of the country is demanding change before then, to make them do their job and stand up to the Executive branch.  Trump is making it easy for us.  He is attacking or causing harm to just about everyone, except the super rich.  Well, la.  There are a lot more of us who are not that rich, than there are of the uber wealthy.  If we call out their lies, expose their corruption, reveal their ill-intent to the American people, they will be ‘dethroned’ by The People.

Going forward, we will be working on both the current ways we are putting pressure on the Administration and developing new ones for you to use.  As the movement grows in size, additional tools become viable; things like boycotts, strikes, etc.  And many more subtle, but effective tactics are coming up.

For now, remember your Call To Action to keep emailing your Senators and Representatives to tell them NOT to vote for a Funding Bill that will make healthcare unaffordable to millions and millions of us and that threatens to collapse the healthcare system, especially in rural areas, like ours.  And they must only vote for a Bill that includes an ironclad measure that says the President must disburse monies voted by Congress, not withhold or re-allocate them.  Many GOP Senators are quietly in crisis.  The effects of the healthcare (or non-healthcare) bill are becoming clear to more and more Americans.  Red states will be seriously affected by this bill and their Senators and Representatives know that.  And now, their constituents are learning the disastrous truth that they have tried to hide.  They are in a no-win situation.  Put there by Trump.  Help the Democrats stay strong and help the GOP MOC vote to help their constituents.  

And be sure to finish up those Postcards for the all important PA Supreme Court seats.  The last batch have to go out on Oct. 24th, as I recall.
