Hello Indivisibles,

We have a very busy Labor Day Weekend ahead!  Make your plans, get ready, invite some friends, carpool.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 29, 4:00-5:30, South Hero:  Indivisible Champlain Islands March and Honk & Wave to Support Workers and Families.

Meet at South Hero Congregational Church at 3:45 to march to Worthen Library.  Despite Trump saying that he is good for Workers, his actions are only hurting workers and families.  Attacks on Union Rights.  Firing Union-protected Federal Workers without cause.  Tariffs that raise prices on food and goods. Attacks on immigrants that have led to a loss of 150,000 agricultural workers, which will also lead to higher food prices. New tax law that transfers a $$$Trillion Dollars from Workers to Billionaires.  Cuts to Healthcare which will drive up the cost of healthcare for all of us.  Policies that destabilize pension funds.  Cuts to Social Security and Veterans services.  The list goes on!

SO COME OUT on Friday and Support our Workers.  Let everyone know that this is wrong and we will not stand for it.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 30, TAYLOR PARK, ST. ALBANS, 1:00 PM: Life Support For Lady Liberty: Parade, Rally, Music.  Meet at the Gazebo in Taylor Park.  Organized by Rail City Indivisible and Green Mountain Alliance Indivisible.  Join a New Orleans-style Funeral Procession, complete with Brass Band, for all the things we have been losing.  Rally for Liberty, Justice and the Rule of Law and celebrate our democracy.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1:00 – 6:00 PM, BATTERY PARK, BURLINGTON: Labor Day Rally and March.  Organized by May Day Strong.  Rally against Trump and the Billionaire Class with a March through Burlington and a Rally at Battery Park followed by a family-friendly picnic.

GO TO MOBILIZE.US FOR MORE INFORMATION AND TO REGISTER FOR THESE EVENTS.  OR JUST SHOW UP!!  I know this is a busy weekend for everyone.  I know you will have plans with family and friends.  Well, it’s time they showed up, too.  We cannot win this struggle if we all stay home thinking, “Oh, someone else will go”.  This is a kick-off weekend for an increasingly active fall.  Take a minute, close your eyes, and imagine what things will be like at this time next year, just before the mid-terms.  It terrifies me.  We cannot wait until things get that bad before we take action.  Unfortunately, this is going to become a way of life for us for the next year or more.

One other date to celebrate; There is a brand new Indivisible that has just formed in our area:  Milton-Westfore-Georgia Indivisible is having their kick-off meeting on September 17 in Milton.  We welcome them and know they will have a strong group and do great things.  We look forward to working with them on future events.

I am working on an email outlining for us what we have accomplished so far, what we need to do, some of how we will do it, why it works and does it actually work.  I think we need to take stock and get a clear view of what we need to do.  One Million Rising gave us some insight into the over-used authoritarian playbook and a look at the responses that other countries and movements have made – some successful, some not.  Now we have to take that information and make a plan. Because I know you are there, ready to help us implement that plan, makes me an optimist every day when I get up.

Yesterday, I saw and interview with Jamie Raskin on national TV.  He is the leading expert on The Constitution in the US Congress (and a personal hero of mine).  He was outlining some of what needs to be done to preserve our democratic form of government.  He singled out Indivisible and the NO KINGS DAY rallies that Indivisible organized all across the country, in defiance of Trump’s pathetic military birthday parade, as a prime example of what has to happen, and keep happening.  And, yes, there is an encore in the works!  Make sure you keep Oct. 18th open on your calendars.  And we will be organizing more local events, as well.

It is a beautiful day.  I hope you can get out and enjoy it.

Cheers,

Marilyn Lagrow
