From Peter:

Since January, President Trump and Republicans in Congress have pursued economic policies that benefit the wealthiest Americans at the expense of hardworking families.

In Vermont, we’re already seeing families pay more for everyday items, small businesses pay higher prices, and a decline in tourism from Canada. With the passage of the so-called “One Big Beautiful Bill,” thousands of people are at risk of losing access to health care and food assistance programs, and we’ll lose good clean energy jobs.

I know many of you are concerned, and I want to hear from you.

That’s why I’m hosting a listening session next Tuesday, August 12, at 5:30pm at the Snow Farm Vineyard and Distillery in South Hero.

Questions about this event, as well as inquiries about accessibility and/or requests for additional accommodation should be directed to my office in Burlington (802-863-252
POST CARD GROUP:  Three of our members have organized our post card writing group.

Rosemany, Doug and Karen (and others) have stacks of postcards from organizations like Postcards to Swing States, Lean Left, Postcards to Voters, etc. They all have the same objective: to reach Democratic and Independent voters in key states and get them to turn out to vote in various races. These races have been identified by the organizations and they provide the mailing lists and the message. They’ve done a lot of research so our job is to simply write the message on a postcard, address it, add a stamp and mail it on the designated date.

Postcard writing is a way to rally people to vote for candidates or issues that will build the resistance to Trump’s take-over attempt and support a free and just society.  It’s another important tool in our tool box.  Writers can participate from home and help make a huge difference.  They currently have stacks of postcards for a state Supreme Court race in Pennsylvania. The message encourages voters to vote for the three incumbent Democratic justices.

You can contact Rosemary (rpk.oneill@gmail.com) or Doug (dougkiser2199@gmail.com), to add your name to the Postcard Group, so we can call on you as more and more elections come into view.  They will supply you with postcards, a mailing list, instructions and the date to mail the cards.  You will buy the postcard stamps.

We encourage as many of our members as possible to sign up.  About 20 of you so far have expressed interest.  You decide how many postcards you can do.  Rosemary and Doug will get the packets of cards to you.  Please contact them.

ADMINISTRATIVE HELP:  It’s a glorious day!  We now have a member who has volunteered to help me with some of our administrative tasks.  You may occasionally get an email from Andrea as she helps out with Membership duties, etc.  When you do, give her a big thanks for donating her time to free up some of mine!  Thank you Andrea!!

DATES TO REMEMBER:

We are adding several dates to our website calendar, dates which I mentioned in my last email.  The ones coming up in the next couple of weeks include:

Aug. 13:  One Million Rising – Session #3

Aug. 16:  International Day of Freedom on the US/Canadian border

Aug. 28:  ICI Book Club meeting at Two Heros (still time to join!)

Labor Day:  Stay tuned for more information on Honk & Waves in the Islands and a big rally in Burlington

Thank you to everyone who turned out to protest ICE at BTV last night.  I just cannot believe that I am living in a country where people are being kidnapped and disappeared without due process.  My daughter lives in a big town near Boston.  They have groups of volunteers who rush to sightings of ICE activity so they can get the names of the people being grabbed and let their families know what has happened.  And in some instances, they actually have to rescue small children who are just left on the street, or in a car, when their parent is taken right in front of them.  It is beyond disgusting and cruel.  This should never happen in a civilized country.  I will do everything I can to make this stop.  I appreciate more than you can possibly know that there are so many of you willing to help me in this struggle.

On to Phil Scott.  I hope some of you called him and thanked him and offered support when he told ICE to stuff it; they cannot use our National Guard.

And then I hope you called him and screamed your anger at him for just turning over all of the personal information of anyone who has been in the SNAP program since 2020.

Our governor is a “Pillar”  which can support or undermine the Trump regime.  He seems confused.  Let’s give him the guidance he needs to protect us all.

Only when good people take action will good things happen.
